Senior Metallurgist

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Metallurgist / Engineering Manager to join a market leading precision manufacturing company in Kent.

The ideal candidate will be reporting into the General Manager, you will be joining a team working within the foundry industry manufacturing castings for heavily regulated industries.

  • Minimum of degree level qualification on Metallurgy / Materials Science.
  • Working Knowledge and experience in Aluminium alloys. For example, alloy composition, grain refining, degassing, fluxing.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Magnesium alloys. For example, alloy composition, grain refining, degassing, fluxing.
  • Experience in sand foundry processes, in particular precision sand casting utilising 3-part resin systems and cold box core making.
  • Monitor sand properties to maintain production of high-quality castings.
  • Understanding of Foundry Methoding as applied to light alloy castings.
  • Interpretation of data presented as material testing results and inspection data to identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Application of special processes relevant to manufacture of light alloy castings including:
    • Weld Repair
    • Heat Treatment
    • Chemical Processing
    • Dye Penetrant Inspection
    • Radiography
  • With respect to the special processes (a working knowledge of Nadcap would be advantageous)
  • Metallurgical investigations. Defect investigation, Preparing castings and extracting sample for material investigation.
  • Preparation of metallurgical reports.
  • Carry out material analysis with an understanding of operation of optical emission spectrometer.
  • Principles of material testing, specifically room temperature tensile testing and Brinell hardness testing.
  • Ability to interpret customers requirements as communicated through drawings, CAD and specifications and convert these into operating instructions, inspection plans and production methods.
  • Be able to discuss metallurgical issues with customers in areas such as defect analysis, and potential warranty returns,

Other

  • Working Hours: 07:30am – 16:00pm Monday to Thursday & 07:30am – 13:30pm Friday
  • Holidays – 25 days holiday plus banks (The company elects to be closed for normal business over the Christmas period a total of 6 days of which 3 are from normal holiday entitlement and 3 are from statutory entitlement)
  • Pension – 5%-3%
  • Life Assurance – You will be covered by Company’s Life Assurance benefits. The scheme provides for a lumpsum benefit payable on death in service equivalent to 2x pensionable salary.
