The company we are partnered with is a prominent player in the manufacturing and processing sector, dedicated to utilizing advanced technology and sustainable practices. Their biomass-fuelled Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, built within the last decade, plays a critical role in powering their operations. The plant features an 11.4 MW biomass thermal oil heater, supplying heat to a Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) unit, ensuring high-efficiency energy production.
Position Summary:
The CHP Lead is responsible for the technical oversight, operation, and optimization of the biomass-fuelled CHP plant. This role is highly specialized, focusing on ensuring efficient and reliable energy generation without the need for line management responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in CHP plant operations, specifically with biomass fuel technology, ORC systems, and SCADA-operated automated machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations of the biomass-fuelled CHP plant, including the thermal oil heater and ORC unit, to ensure consistent and reliable energy output.
- Monitor and analyse plant performance, making data-driven adjustments to optimize efficiency and meet the facility’s energy requirements.
- Conduct and oversee routine maintenance activities, troubleshoot operational issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain plant integrity.
- Lead efforts to identify and implement process improvements, leveraging state-of-the-art automation, SCADA systems, and metering technologies to enhance overall performance.
- Ensure strict compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, conducting regular safety audits and maintaining necessary documentation.
- Serve as the technical expert on biomass CHP plant operations, providing guidance and support to internal teams and collaborating with external contractors and suppliers.
- Prepare and deliver regular performance reports, offering insights on operational status, challenges, and opportunities for further optimization.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
- Experience in CHP, Biomass, Waste to energy plant operations, with a focus on biomass fuel and ORC technology.
- Proven experience in optimizing CHP plant performance and managing complex energy systems.
- Experience with SCADA-operated automated machinery in industrial settings.
